Please help save our RAF base

I am so lucky to live in a beautiful part of Scotland. For the last 70 years we have had two RAF bases which have played a huge part in our local community and economy.

One is closing after the defence review and it looks like the other may well be going in the same direction.

This will have a major impact for the service families who live locally and for the local community and its economy. Apparently it will be equivalent to 700,000 jobs being lost in London

So please please please can you take a minute and join the Save RAF Lossiemouth and its' Local Community facebook group.

Thank you

The bases may well be used by the Army when those in Germany are moved back, so don't despair just yet; those of us on here are all waiting to see if the redundancies will affect us too.

Bump

Kinloss is earmarked for the Army. Although there will be about a 3 year gap between RAF moving out and Army taking over.
It is a big blow to that area ,as the military are major players in the economy.
We loved living up there , my DH was at Kinloss for 14yrs and is saddened by the closure, but not shocked as some have appeared to be.

The problem is it will be at least five years before the Army moves in (if they do at all).

We will keep fingers and toes crossed!

Well, they're closing down the bases in Germany, so the troops based there will need accommodation in the UK (hence the re-roling of RAAF bases). So, I don't think there's ,uch doubt of the base being used in the future.

Herbie how do you know that? Not being funny, it's just that DH has had meetings with his boss and none of the bigwigs on station seem able confirm one way or the other.

KittyFoyle · 03/11/2010 17:40

We have a similar fight on here in Norfolk to save RAF Marham near Kings Lynn. I heard with Lossiemouth or Marham will close. My family was from Lossiemouth once upon a time - either closure will be shake the local economy. Good luck to the campaigns.

flossie64 · 04/11/2010 21:51

They are reducing Tornados down to 6 squadrons ,so both will not be viable and all the servicing is based at Marham, Too expensive to move all that to another station.

JelliBelli · 05/11/2010 12:16

Flossie, how do you know that? I thought no decisions have been made. How come you and Herbie know more than the rest of us? Is it strong speculation or do you actually know facts?

I don't mean to sound funny but I would love to know some truths rather than just rumours Sad.

flossie64 · 05/11/2010 14:28

If I told you I would have to kill you Wink
AFAIC it is not a rumour, but things do change ,so it will be the usual waiting game .
If I'm right you heard it hear first ,but if I'm wrong it was just a rumoour Grin
