MOD London. Want to be in London for the Olympics, and I could probably get a transfer from the job I am doing now - and maybe even a promotion.

luciemule · 07/10/2010 09:27

Back to Germany - great quality of life with lots of family time - even willing for DH to go away for 6 months and leave me with the children there.

Hmmm - thoughts of yummy German food and pretty Christmas decorations........

scaryteacher · 07/10/2010 10:59

We're in it - Brussels; but the real fantasy would be Canada (preferably Vancouver Island) for either the RN or NATO. Friends had an exchange job there, and we went over - great food, great needlework shops, great bookstores, and the thought of being able to access caesar salads, fab rootbeer and Starbucks easily for a chai latte would make it my ideal posting. Can't get either of the first two in Brussels (only revolting imitations thereof) and I have to go to the airport for Starbucks.

onimolap · 09/10/2010 15:46

I lived the dream on a Hong Kong posting many years ago.

I'd quite fancy an unusual diplomatic posting, but DH says that's really not likely. Anyone know what you need to do/be to get onto that circuit?

scaryteacher · 09/10/2010 17:54

A friend was ADA in Bulgaria. The ability to speak odd languages helps.

NickOfTime · 13/10/2010 05:24

oo weenawoo, tell about schools, tried to get hold of you a few months back as thought you were still there. Grin

what age is the high school in stanley from? any service children there?

how big is the school in mpa now?

(there is a job on The List that dh is perusing now - almost certain he's going to pull the plug, and we'll be off to civvie street (in canada lol ) but you never know.)

have you had a good time?

weenawoo · 19/10/2010 17:09

Nickoftime am still out here, School in Stanley goes up to 16 years old now some children from here go weekly boarding, most board in the uk. Think there's 30 odd kids in the MPA school.
I love it out here although winter is difficult - would advise anybody coming out here to book a holiday back to the UK in August!
Lots of interesting wildlife and great scenery. I'm glad we came here but you do miss the convienience of home - limited fresh veg, clothes shops, and things to do that don't involve a long drive!
Although generally an expensive place to live the wine is very cheap, as is the locally produced meat.
I think that the pros outweigh the cons of being here but there are people who detest it.
On the whole I'd do it again!

Germany. I'd do anything to go back. I think I've actually been depressed since the day we were dragged back.

I miss the food, the people, the shopping, the parks, the weather. Everything Sad

Saltire · 20/10/2010 12:41

Right now - my fantasy posting would be back in our own house in Scotland, away from the lunatic neighbours who are making ym life a misery.
For the first time in 17 years of MQ living, I want out, i want to pack my bags, leave Dh and go. I have had enough, the RAF are doing fuck all about this woman and her bullying, the latest idea is "let's get all the parties (all wives) around the table for mediation.

scaryteacher · 20/10/2010 13:30

Strictly - from the look of it you wouldn't get to go back for long anyway.

StrictlyOogieBoogiePumpkin · 20/10/2010 16:28

Huh?! Have I missed something?

scaryteacher · 20/10/2010 18:05

They're beginning to bring back BFG from 2015, and could well do it quicker.

StrictlyOogieBoogiePumpkin · 20/10/2010 19:37

Nooooooo we're due posting mid 2012 and I need to go back to Germany. I just need 2 years to meet an actual German who I can make love me and whom I can leave DH for and actually stay in Germany forever [hwink]

fedupwithdeployment · 20/10/2010 19:42

Paris, Brussels, Washington....actually I would settle for dh to be in MOD and have some notice of posting. And for the MQ bill not to be wrong AGAIN. Frankly, when you see the disaster that is JPA (how many errors per person per year?) are any of us surprised at the criticisms of MOD spending decisions?

weenawoo · 20/10/2010 19:50

Washington, would love that. Mind you less and less good postings available. Everytime I think of somewhere I'd love to go that seems viable they cut the job or close it down!

mylittlepeanut · 20/10/2010 20:07

I'm in Washington now and I'm planning to use squatters rights next year when we are posted back to the UK.

fedupwithdeployment · 21/10/2010 14:03

And what about the worst places? Perhaps another thread...but DH was offered 2 years accompanied in the Yemen. Not exactly a plum posting!

scaryteacher · 21/10/2010 14:32

Bristol, Fas Lane....

weenawoo · 21/10/2010 14:40

I dread getting somewhere like Digby

OP posts:
StrictlyOogieBoogiePumpkin · 21/10/2010 15:27

Shrivenham! Could there be anywhere less exciting....?

fedupwithdeployment · 21/10/2010 16:03

nice pubs...better than the Yemen!
