Why is that so many of the places that offer forces discount

Only apply the discount to the forces id card holder (in our case DH). We went to the cinema yesterday, and DH showed his ID card. The woman said the discount was only applicable to his ticket,a dn not to a family ticket.
This has happened in other places, where it's actually cheaper not to use the forces discount, so why offer it . IYSWIM.

I've also found that a lot of places don't even know they offer a forces discount despite a huge advert in the Forces discount brochure Hmm - annoying and embarrassing!

penguin73 · 17/08/2010 09:17

Because he is the Forces member, not the rest of the family!

Saltire · 17/08/2010 11:03

Yes but they advertise in forces related brochures, as "forces discount", and then when you turn up they say "oh we take £1.00 off the service person admission but the rest of you will have to pay £6.95 each and you can't get a family ticket". SO really there's not much point in offering a disocunt is there?

However, my sil got money off evening dresses for balls in Coast when db showed his ID card.

Varies from place to place, some are excellent and others aren't, but at least something is offered which is more than can be said for the majority of places!

get your DH's to apply for the Halfords discount cards - they really are worth it and they give a really good discount.

Millets offer 10% off with ID card- every branch we have been in know about it. There childrens wear is pretty reasonable and some of it is very nice.

SandyChick · 22/08/2010 16:40

Nando's are the same. If myself, dh and ds go for a meal they give 20% discount to what dh is eating instead of taking 20% off the whole bill.

Saltire- Which cinema give forces discount?

Clintons cards and costwold outdoor give 20% discount.

There's a good forum on forces discounts here

You might want to give the rest of the site a wide berth, though.

Nointhemood · 31/08/2010 10:13

it annoys me that they always advertise student discount in the shop window but never forces discount!!1

Saltire · 04/09/2010 08:05

Sandychick - VUE give it, but it's not very well advertised. I read it in very small print whilst waiting in the queue.

Just wanted to mention dh was given 20% discount in blacks at the weekend. They price match against Cotswold outdoor who also give 20% at the moment.
