Pirate themed small cakes for school fair

Our school fair is a pirate themed affair so need to bake for the cake stall pirate themed buns.
Any ideas please? Would prefer them to be simple as aiming for quantity rather than quality.

black icing. don't be ornate, kids won't look at them past the black icing

You could do black icing and then a dolop of white and a criss cross underneath for the jolly roger.

too adventurous?

Make each cake a 'piece of eight'- sprinkle with gold or yellow icing and put in some sort of makeshift treasure chest.

Or something.

ja9 I think I could just about manage those.
Another idea I had was to buy those little chocolate cake bars and take off the top spread butter cream on and then I need something for jewels before popping the lid back on. What do you think? Would they work?

gold coins suck on with icing ie. Pieces of eight?

as in chocolate gold coins. Not real ones!

Fairy cakes + writing icing + silver balls.

Ice on a black patch, a white blob for an eye with a silver ball on top.

Ice red/yellow/green.. stripes at the top for a bandana + a black nose and red mouth. Black dots for stubble.

Done.

I did LOADS of these for ds party and it took no time at all.

Oops sorry I just suggested what someone else had already linked! I didnt bother with the white icing base though as didnt think it was necessary.

Oh these ideas are all really good! esp the chocolate treasure boxes and the pieces of eight! It's DS1's bday in a few weeks, so I'm taking note.
