Pizza base??

Does anyone have a recipe for a pizza base?
The one I have calls for the oven to be rediculously hot or "ideally a pizza oven" . The base doesn't seem to taste that great ( i know it's basically bread, but it tastes doughy iyswim?) and the heat of the oven tends to cremate the topping.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received

You need the base to be really hot, not the top, iyswim. I doubt its your recipe thats the problem, you need heat from below.

I have a pizza stone from Pampered Chef that does the job well, you heat it up in the oven on max and then put the pizza base on it when its boiling hot, adding your topping next, then shove back in the oven for 6 mins. A patio slab cut to size would do the same job, basically you want a stone type thing that holds the heat that you cook the pizza on directly.

We went to friend's house and she did pizza for the kids with scone-type base. It's yummy.

Anyway. I don't have a pizza stone. Just put your baking tray in there to preheat till really hot before putting pizza on. I use Hugh what's-his-name's recipe.

I just use a baking tray and don't even bother with pre-heating it; I actually like to roll out my dough in advance, quite thin and then give it another while to rise a bit before putting the topping on and baking. Works for us, as can prepare the lot in advance and can then let the kids loose on decorating.. and they generally come out very yum
