can I have your foolproof flapjack recipe please?

I did have the perfect recipe and I lost it during a house move...

Basically it wither comes out rock hard and can't get it out of the tin, or it hasn't stuck together and we end up just eating the crumbs out of the tin in one sitting! I want them to go in packed lunches, so if you could pass on your recipes that actually work I'd be very grateful!

This is my favourite:

6oz butter, 6oz demerara sugar, 3 tblsp golden syrup melted in a pan. Add 8oz oats and anything else like 1oz coconut, nuts, fruit etc. Bake at gas 3 for 20-25 minutes. I like quite a squishy deep flapjack so I use 7" square tin but you could adjust that depending on how you like yours.

PS always butter the tin really well and cut the flapjack whilst it is still warm. Take it out of the tin and onto a cooling rack with a palette knife when it is almost but not quite cold.

try it with half a can of carnation UNsweetened condensed milk....amazing and nice and chewy,never hard.
I bake at about 160 for half an hour.

I add 1 oz self raising flour to my mixture which helps keep it together, baking it for 20 mins at 170 degrees. When it's out of the oven, I ease round the edge with a knife, then leave it for a while before turning out, and cut it when it's completely cool.

Have heard about adding condensed milk, but have a serious milk aversion since breastfeeding!!

I wondered about adding flour, I've noticed the ones from the bakery seem to have a little bit in them.

Carbonated's recipe turned out pretty well, but I only had round cake tins so bit tricky to get them out..

Foolproof you say? I am the fool it is not proofed against - I thought it seemed runny going in and loads erupted into the oven floor too

Hang on, it may survive - the edges are nice and chewy and it tastes good. Maybe as it cools it will firm up in the middle...

Look up Soupdragon's in the archive on here. The secret is in the condensed milk. Works every time and is delicious.

The condensed milk version is the only one I've ever made that has been binned, I stupidly assumed you wouldn't be able to taste it in the finished flapjacks.

This is my favourite:

250g oats
150g butter
75g sugar
75g golden syrup

Melt butter, sugar and syrup together, stir into oats, press into lined tray, cook 25-30 mins at 175C. If you want crunchy rather than chewy same time at 185C.

That sounds more like it whoknows - I wasn't convinced by the mix of ingredients and even dc3 has commented that it is too sweet!

I will add condensed milk to my shopping list - it's not something I keep in normally - and try the Soupdrahon Flapjack.

However tonight's effort is not yet a complete failure

Just double checked and realised I only added 6oz of oats, not 8oz. Serves me right for using the phone and not wearing my glasses...
