Last weekend I ate the most gorgeous German cake, and I was wondering if anyone has the recipe?

It had 6 eggs in it
It was a dense plain cake with sunken chocolatey bits in it
She cooked it in a tray bake and served it up in small squares
It was her East German grandmother's recipe

I am dreaming about how delicious it was
So is DH
Any help?

Otherwise I may have to eat my hand instead

Can't you just ask her for the recipe? And then share it with us???

Sounds yummy.

DarrellRivers · 03/07/2010 22:20

I have asked, but you know what some people are like with recipes, they take forever to share them with you, sometimes on purpose I think.
I may need to torture her to get it out of her
(I have tried googling with no results)

There's a German thread - look under Living Overseas. They're a helpful bunch and don't seem to mind a hijack - it's certainly worth trying there.

Hassled, that is a brilliant plan
Off to find the thread

Was it one of these Zupfkuchen ?

That's the only kind of German cake I can think of that fits the description.
