how far in advance can I make fruit salad?

dinner party tonight - can I make fruit salad now? was thinking of putting the fruit in apple juice and dash of lemon juice

That should be OK. You will obviously leave the bananas until just before you serve it, and probably not a bad idea to do the same with the apples as they will go brown otherwise.

yes I agree - fine to do it now but leave out any bananas. I think the apples would be OK actually so long as they were submerged in juice.

I like fruit salad that has had a bit of time to marinade

depends on the fruit you are using.

I like melon, mango, strawberries and orange in a fruit salad and I can make that the night before.

If you use kiwifruit in your salad, like lemon juice, the acidity will help prevent other things browning. And if you have a bottle of 'Stones Green Ginger Wine' handy, a dash of that is delicious.
