Tomatoes

My recipes says 2kg of peeled chopped tomatoes. I only have tins of chopped tomatoes at the moment.
I have two questions:

  1. How many tins is 2kg?
  2. When i use the chopped tomatoes do i drain the juice or would the juice be considered like that of the actual tomatoes if i were using them themselves?

Hope this makes sense.

I think 4 tins is 2kg or just a bit under.

I would just throw it all in.

I think its 4 tins (IIRC the tins in my cupboard are 454g, but I can't be bothered to go and double check!)
I would drain some of the juice but not all.

2 kg is aprox 4lbs, each tin should be about 250-300 if you remove the juice.

Does the recipe mentions tinned tomatoes as ingredient? if not, probably without the juice.

Chandra · 16/08/2005 14:04

250-300 grams

ChaCha · 16/08/2005 14:15

No, recipe doesn't mention the juice. Just 2kg of peeled, chopped tomatoes.
So, should i retain some of the juice, none of the juice or what do you all advise as a final consensus?

I'm making a Moroccan chicken tagine and really don't want to mess up....Thanks all xxx

To help you calculate the weight, imagine 4Lbs of tomatoes in their original shape and that's what you are aiming for.

ChaCha · 16/08/2005 14:30

I'm imagining.....
but to keep the juice or not to keep the juice...that is the question

Cheers xx

Nah,keep the juice.Impossible to balls up a recipe like this. In any case,if it's too thin, you can jusr reduce it at the end by boiling abit.

LOL at balls up Thanks Moondog and thanks Chandra and everyone else.
