Storing food...

Is it better to chill food (like, stew, soup) in the fridge for 3 days or to take it out each day, heat it thoroughly to kill off any bugs, then re-chill?

Point of debate in our house at the moment.

FGS, your stomach acid is ph2, it will kill most bugs, and most of those those it doesn't will do you little harm.

Home-cooked food with keep for a week in the fridge. Don't take it out each day and boil it!

re-heating more than once carries lots of problems. Only reheat the amount you're going to eat; leave the rest cold!

Thanks - am just making a huge batch of curry to eat over the next few days, and I know DH will start telling me to reboil it every day. But I shall leave it chilled in the fridge.

I'd thought 3 days max (beef, chicken, vegetables). But do you think up to a week is really OK?

DH is misinformed. Leave the food in a closed container in the fridge and just take out what you need when you need it. Will likely last at least 4 or 5 days.

Alternatively, have a blow out chinese takeaway meal (where they use the plastic containers) and wash and save the takeaway containers. You can then portion out the curry in to one or two serving portions and put them in the freezer for as and when.
