I've turned off the Aga before we all go up in one big ball of flames and I am left with two gas rings to cook on!

Can anyone inspire me with hob only ideas please?

Have also got a microwave too BTW.

watching wih interest...

in the same boat (although have yet ot turn aga off - have turned aircon unit on instead - madness!)

have combi microwave (and food intolerant children, and dd1 has food phobias,so can't just have barbecues, or salad, etc)

Can you get hold of a steamer? You can cook rice/fish/chicken/vegetables on this. If you have a slow cooker you can cook caseroles etc, then have salad.

Pennies · 29/06/2010 19:44

I have stackable pots so can do steaming with them.

Wehey! There you go then, you can cook loads in a steamer and it's healthy!

Yum!

Can't turn off aga - no other cooking source in this house (rented so can't put in cooker)

silverfrog · 30/06/2010 12:51

ha! that's where we are at, too, mmb

rented - no other hob/cooker.
there IS a combi microwave, but given the restrictions I have to work with (dds are gluten/dairy intolerant, and dd1 - actually BOTH dds are extremely fussy eaters - dd1 due to ASD, dd2, well, just because she's 3 Ireckon!)

I always have a massive cooking session just before I turn off the aga and fill the freezer with food. Then all I need to do is defrost and ping it in the microwave. When the weather cools down a bit and you turn the aga back on again try to set aside a day to cook lots of different things and freeze them. At the time it seems like a real hassle but it's worth it.

In the meantime I would stick with lots of pasta/rice dishes and stir fries.

we've put ours on the pilot light. This gives us the option of slow cooking meat as well, we also do barb-b-queues and loads of pasta, salads, risotto and the like

meltedmarsbars · 30/06/2010 13:48

Can yo make risotto in the microwave?

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 30/06/2010 13:51

You can steam it meltedmarsbars.

Wwatt - can you talk me through slow cooking using just the pilot light pls.
