Substitute for marsala

What can I substitute for marsala in a pot roast so the DC can eat it? (Not that I've got any marsala anyway!)

The alcohol would cook out so there's no problem giving it to children, but if you don't think they would like the flavour then just use more stock or water to make up the liquid.

Bog standard dry sherry (not cooking shrry, that stuff is nasty).
White wine (with teaspoon of brandy added if possible).
50:50 mix of vermouth and dry sherry

The marsala prob adds sweetness and flavour so if adding more water to replace should prob add sugar/honey too, apple juice?
