I've got some good friends who I havent seen for ages coming for lunch on Sunday and I want to do something impressive but incredibly easy for lunch! We will have lots of little ones running around so I don't want to be stuck in the kitchen, and I'm doing kid-friendly food for them to cater for their various fussy-eating habits, but I wneed a main and pud for 4 adults that will be good for eating outside on a hot day (it's supposed to be hitting 30 degrees!)

Any ideas?? BTW all the adults are completely unfussy eaters thank goodness!

What about a sort of Greek Meze? You could grill lamb chops, pre make and grill lamb koftas, make a vege mousaka, hummous, tabbouleh, a big greek salad, pita breads, tzatziki, grilled peppers, bowls of olives.

I would finish with a huge summer berry pavlova with whipped cream.

Can't you precook a chicken, buy some cold meats, throw together a nice salad with some bread (or some new potatoes).

Serve with coleslaw, beetroot, olives and everyone helps themselves.

For dessert, I would just do a big bowl of mixed soft fruits and serve with cream.

You can do all the prep beforehand, then just whizz it outside when you need it.

It sounds like it will be too hot to contemplate preparing/eating anything more complicated!

BBQ! It's going to be hot.

And yes agree pavlova would be perfect for afters.

Thanks for the ideas, I love greek food but not sure how good I'd be at making it! I might cheat and buy a few bits from the deli to serve before the main course.

Cold roast chicken and salad is a great idea too. These are just the kind of things that would work really well and now I am wondering why I didn't think of them before!!

Just seen a Waitrose ad for Delia's pavlova, might give that a go - but prefer raspberries instead of strawberries

I am so blind! Just looked to the right of the screen and spotted the MN recipe of the week for red berry pavlova sure it's much better than Delia's!

BBQ- too much faff!

M&S or Waitrose has lovely deli food in largish quantities, and I pretty sure you can buy a cake sized meringue base there too.

Greek food is simple!

Tabouleh- small/fine dice one red onion, 15 baby plum tomatoes, large handful of parsley.

Mix together in a bowl with slug of olive oil and a juice of 1-2lemons. Add salt and pepper. Cook 700gr of bulgar wheat according to packet instructions and allow to cool. Add to the chopped up veg/herbs. Done.

Lamb chops- seasons with Salt/pepper and oregano, brush with olive oil.Grill. Done.

Hoummous- buy
Olives-buy
Pita, Koftas, Tzaziki- buy buy buy.
