Alternative to sake

Now I have many exotic and ill-advised liqeurs from pre-DC holidays in my cupboard, but no sake, and I need it for a recipe. Is there anything else that would be a decent alternative to it for a recipe? It's for a marinade with salmon. TIA.

Got any mirin?

If not, I might try a splash of white wine vinegar sweetened with either honey or a little sugar depending on what else is in your marinade. Taste as you go....

No mirin but I do have wine vinegar, will give that a try- thanks!

sherry is often suggested instead of sake for recipes if you have any

I think I do - can't say how old it is though! Is sweet or dry meant to be better?

Dry is more like sake but any sherry fine in a marinade anyway I would say (fingers crossed you agree if you use it)!
