Please help. I have a vic sponge that we made for Father's Day and I promised DD we could ice it and then write Daddy in buttons on top.

I thought I had some double cream which I was going to whip, add strawberries and then choc buttons too on the top.

However, I have sour cream, is there anything I can do?

I think just butter and icing suger makes buttercream but I may be completely wrong

Butter, icing sugar and the vanilla extract will give you butter icing.

Butter cream and icing sugar = buttercream. Never tried sour cream but icing sugar and cream cheese makes lovely icing, so it would probably be fine.

I wanted something a bit less sweet than pure buttercream as it's a bit too sweet for DP, thank you though.

janeite you're right, it can't be a million miles away from cream cheese in terms of taste/texture, I have a carrot cake recipe that used cream cheese in the icing so I might try that.

He has to pretend he loves it regardless of how it actually tastes!

Why don't you make a tiny bit to see what it tastes like first?

Remember that you'll probably need less sour cream than cream cheese, as it's runnier.

I would make the buttercream them add sourcream little by little

Should be ok

Yes, that is what I will do, make a little and add sour cream v.slowly.

Thank you ladies, MN saves the day again!
