mmmmmm i LOVE BaBP

i always just play it by ear when i make it though so no recipe from me but i will be drooling all day thinking about it

I usually do about 8 or 10 slices of buttered bread layered with a couple of handfuls of sultanas, then mix 1 pint hot milk, 2 beaten eggs and 2oz sugar and pour it over. 180 C for about 40 minutes.

I've never tried it with croissants or pain au chocolat but I'm sure you could just swap them for the buttered bread and it would come out lovely!

Yum.... I shall be thinking about that all day too...

I do similar to amis, but I don't add sugar as I find that the sultanas sweeten it enough, and I don't heat the milk. I also leave it all to soak for an hour or two before putting in the oven, although this isn't essential if you're short of time. Demerera sugar sprinkled over the top gives a nice crunchy topping.

You can certainly use croissant or pain au chocolate (or brioche if you have any) in place of the bread - again as they are quite sweet I would go easy on any added sugar.

Oh, I cook mine for more than 40 mins too, but then my custard mix isn't hot when it goes in.

Tear up the crossaints and pains au chocolat
Add chunks of chocolate/chocolate chips
Plenty of custard (my recipe is similar to AMIS's)
Bake

Chocolate croissant pud. Nom nom nom.

Has anyone ever made bread n butter pud with granary bread??

frakkit · 19/06/2010 13:40

One thing - don't butter the croissants. They have enough butter in them already and if you butter them it ends up very greasy!

it was lovely thanks
