Help!! Quantities needed for 12x18 sponge

Hello lovely Ladies,

I have read all your posts here...you all are so helpful! I am making a Thomas the Tank Engine birthday cake for my best friend's 3rd little boys birthday and need quantities for a 12x18 sponge mix. I am freaking out right now as I've never actually made a birthday cake (only cupcakes!).

Any help would be grately appreciated!!

assuming that the dimensions are in inches, I would make an eight egg sponge mix, and then if it doesn't look enough you could always make a bit more.

you might find you need to make the mix up in several lots anyway unless you have a really really big bowl!
