Can I freeze sponge cake?

For reasons better left unsaid, we are returning from holidays the night before DDS 4th birthday party.
Can I sucessfully freeze a tray bake style sponge cake and a batch of fairy cakes?
Will they defrost overnight so I can decorate them in the morning?
Advice please

Yes indeed you can.

As LynetteScavo said, yes you can. You can even buttercream ice before freezing (I think).
