Is it readily available in Asda or Tescos?

Fresh horseradish root isn't a big seller so you might only find it in really large supermarkets or ethnic greengrocers. You can get jars of grated horseradish from specialist grocers

alarkaspree · 16/06/2010 15:55

I used to get it in my local greengrocer (not ethnic or particularly big) occasionally but they didn't have it regularly. It's worth asking them about things like that.

Fresh horseradish is hard to get hold of ime. You could try asking one of the swankier restaurants near you who supplies them with fruit and veg - we have a v.good grocer near us who supplies the swisher places and as a result they have some less mainstream stuff in their shop (although sometimes it's under the counter).

Whatever you do, do not grow the thing; it'll take over every sq inch of your veggie patch and stay. Forever.

Fresh wild horseradish can be found in many woodlands. Makes for an interesting stroll.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 16/06/2010 20:27

oh no! have planted horseradish in the garden - didn't know it had triffid-like qualities!

allstarsprincess · 17/06/2010 09:56

I would dig it up now and put it into a large container! It really will invade your patch and prove incredibly difficult to get out if it takes hold.

TheBoyWithaSORNedMX5 · 17/06/2010 10:14

unless you have slugs horseradishes - both of which disappeared over night, never to be seen again

allstar you could sell it!

TheBoyWithaSORNedMX5 · 17/06/2010 10:14

oops - that should have been rollmops.

Also planted a samll root in a quite corner of the garden as can't buy it locally - will sell to the local butcher then to go with rib of beef .
