Coca Cola

Hello, New to Mumsnet and this is my first thread so be gentle.

Like all toddlers my DS loves coca cola but I have recently been thinking of mixing his diet up a bit.
I thought maybe orange tango but have read some worrying reports on the amount of sugar per can.
Does anyone have any suggestions of other fizzy drinks that might be suitable as my DS just loves the bubbles. Thanks.

Irn Bru is fabulous stuff for toddlers.
It's made from Girders

spookycharlotte121 · 16/06/2010 12:27

I dunno.... I reckon a shot of espresso would do him the world of good.... maybe he could take up smoking too!

CuppaTeaJanice · 16/06/2010 12:28

Maybe a can of Special Brew? Or Lambrusco - that's nice and fizzy!

ElvisCridlington · 16/06/2010 12:29

Do they still make Irn Bru ?

omg red bull too.... it gives you winds dont'cha know

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/06/2010 12:31

Sprite with vodka is what my dd loves.

Lionstar · 16/06/2010 12:31

My kids have expensive tastes, they love champagne for breakfast. If your budget doesn't stretch that far how about some Lambrusco?

ElvisCridlington · 16/06/2010 12:35

Lambrusco it is with 2 votes.
I was actually looking for some sound advise but get the feeling you mums are joking.
I would never let my DS smoke.

Lambrini's a bit cheaper if you have to watch the budget, and comes in cherry flavour too, it's tastes like feet delicious.

jazzandh · 16/06/2010 12:37

Appletise or cordial with sparkling water.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/06/2010 12:37

Elvis, you may not get the choice about letting your DS smoke. My dd is only 9, but on 3-4 a day. I find if you can't afford champagne and think lambrusco too chavvy, prosecco is a happy medium.

spookycharlotte121 · 16/06/2010 12:39

what about wkd? it comes in fun colours too!

ShadeofViolet · 16/06/2010 12:40

'like all toddlers'

Not mine - mine hates anything fizzy.

KodakTheBat · 16/06/2010 12:43

Lambrini goes down a treat in this house... I know it's got a bad rep, but at the rate my DC drink it, it's got to be cheap!

ElvisCridlington · 16/06/2010 12:44

Oooops, got to go, DS has just had an accident.

Fizzy water with a dash of orange squash?

funkychunkymunky · 16/06/2010 12:51

If you are just worried about the amount of sugar you could buy diet tango.

Mine all love that cheap pomaine stuff. You can get a 750ml bottle in Lidl for £1! Makes the cheeky little scamps sleep too!

Oh and baileys is a good source of calcium but a bit on the pricey side. It's best to just put a shot in a glass of milk for that baileys taste. The little uns love it.

CuppaTeaJanice · 16/06/2010 12:52

Must be the coke - it goes straight through you!

sweetkitty · 16/06/2010 12:53

Seriously though I saw a 3yo swigging from a can of Red Bull before 9am last week.

Why would anyone give their child caffeine?

Missmodular · 16/06/2010 12:54

You're all meanies. Apart from jazz.

I work with a chap whose brother is a doctor somewhere in Scotland. Aparently he sometimes has mothers coming in asking for advice because their babies just won't sleep. Then he spots the Irn Bru in their bottles.

muggglewump · 16/06/2010 13:30

Vintage Champagne?
Oh I bet your one of them snobby types what shops at Sainsberrys or Waitroses.

Mine has Lambrini and it does her fine. She likes it in her bottle while she watches Horror films on the plasma. I brought it from Brighthouse

TheBoyWithaSORNedMX5 · 16/06/2010 18:04

Slightly off topic but as Kreecher mentioned fags - I found that it was easier to encourage DS to exhale effectively if I got him to blow bubbles. He finds popping the little smoke-filled things such fun and it is really helping his hand-eye coordination.

Any old bubble mix will do but be sure to store it in a seperate area of your changing bag when you're out and about as otherwise there's a danger your B&H will get soggy.

Elvis, you are right to try and vary your LO's diet. Do try to steer him away from fizz though - it's bad for their teeth apparently. Try Malibu and pineapple - then he'll be getting one of his 5 a day

antoinettechigur · 16/06/2010 23:07

Yes they still make IrnBru.
Why not try the little one with IrnBru Chews. They are highly corrosive so you won't have all that toothfairy faff to worry about.

Also a good way of introducing solids IME.
