idea for a small individual birthday cake?

DH wil be away from home for his birthday I'd like to make him a little cake to hide in his luggage, but that's where my inspiration ends.

My baking's OK, but my artistic talent (and imagination) is limited. Has anyone got an idea? I was thinking cup cake, but they all seem too girly.

I find when my imagination is running short its great to go on Flickr and put something in the search engine to help inspire me.

Perhaps try, cupcake and a word relating to one of his hobbies or interests? eg cupcakes and football.

Ive read about, but not tried making ,individual cakes baked in small tins such as baked bean single portion size.
Keep the lid as protection , smooth ice it and write a tiny message using food colouring pens.
