What do your kids have for breakfast if they won't do cereal?

My ds is 8, loves cereals but strangely will only eat them before bed for his supper. He can't seem to face cereals or fruit for brekkie, unyet will at other times in the day....

Anyway, he has toast, brioches or croissant atm, what else could he have?

Boiled/ fried/ scrambled/ poached egg? French toast?

PestoEatsPasties · 10/06/2010 18:49

DD2 has a slice of wholemeal bread slathered with Nutella

TheArmadillo · 10/06/2010 18:50

ds has toast, plate of fruit, yoghurts, oatcakes and banana. OR combinations of the above.

JaxTellersOldLady · 10/06/2010 18:52

mars bar and a packet of salt n vinegar crisps. Is what I used to have at high school, as I spent my money on ciggies.

just joking (sorta)

how about toast with peanut butter and banana, lots of slow release energy food? or yogurt with muesli? If he wont take anything at all milky, then just stick to what he has, it wont do him any harm.

TrinityTrinityTrinity · 10/06/2010 18:52

nutella on toast or sandwich

yoghurts

wraps with cheese or ham

BertieBotts · 10/06/2010 18:53

How about yoghurt/fromage frais, porridge/ready brek, museli/granola with yoghurt, or some kind of healthy bread/muffin type thing, like fruit toast, carrot cake, courgette and coconut muffin (sounds weird - you can't taste the courgette though)

oiteach · 10/06/2010 18:56

dd has a banana and a yoghurt.
or strawberries,
or home made smoothie [smug domestic goddess emoticon] (ok I admit it is only banana and milk....)
Home made flapjack
greek yoghurt and honey

Lynli · 10/06/2010 18:57

fish finger sandwiches. Sad but true

colditz · 10/06/2010 18:57

toast
fried egg sandwiches
brioche rolls
Cheese cobs

grumpypants · 10/06/2010 18:57

pain au chocolat/ waffles/ scotch pancakes/ eggs

GrimmaTheNome · 10/06/2010 18:59

DD is currently on homemade chocolate-banana muffins - high fibre, no added sugar.

They have to be hidden in freezer to stop DH scoffing them.

gramercy · 10/06/2010 18:59

Interested in this.

Ds will not touch any food in the morning. He has hot chocolate before school. I feel guilty, but then again, I myself can't face food before 10am. At that time ds and I could demolish an entire breakfast buffet, but first thing in the morning... [heaving emoticon]

pagwatch · 10/06/2010 19:03

I don't especially like them having cereals everyday - sugary carb and no protein ...

Scrambled egg on toast
sausage sandwich
full english
poached eggs with ham.
Smoked salmon cream cheese bagel
cheese and tuna toast
cheese and ham wraps

CantSupinate · 10/06/2010 19:05

Porridge, fruit, McVite's cheddars, toast, English muffins, crumpets and other bready things.

DrNortherner · 10/06/2010 19:07

So just how bad is nutella for breakfast, really? He does love it.

I used to have nutella for breakfast. Essential nutrient in my book .

InThisSequinBraYesYouOlaJordan · 10/06/2010 19:09

Peanut butter on bread is a fave with DS1 here. If I would give croissants every day, then they would be happily eaten.

DS2 currently happy with Weetabix/Porrige/Mini Shredded Wheat/Puffed Rice

I abhor all cereal, so I am a toast/porridge/croissant girl myself. Do love a hotel buffet breakfast though...

pagwatch · 10/06/2010 19:10

ooh I love a hotel buffet breakfast...

taffetacat · 10/06/2010 19:11

Bagel - plain toasted with Marmite or cinnamon and raisin with butter
English muffin - ditto
Plain old Marmite or Bovril on toast
Grandma's jam on toast
Cheese toastie, with a thin scraping of marmalade on a Friday
Dippy eggs with a platoon of soldiers - weekends only when there's time
Bacon sarnies - ditto
Scrambled eggs on Marmite toast - ditto
Milk brioche rolls

Actimel to drink. Low numbers only on the base of the container though, DS saves the high numbered ones for his lunchbox - has to beat his friends.

DecorHate · 10/06/2010 19:14

Toast/muffins (toasting kind)/crumpets/little pancakes/cereal without milk on schooldays. Might do scrambled eggs or french toast at weekend as a brunch.

gramercy - I give my ds's hot chocolate in the morning too - it's the only way ds2 will drink milk (and this is a child who still had bottles at the age of 3) and I figure if they don't eat much at least they have had some calories to keep them going.

Mine have raisin scones with butter, will sometimes have cereal but won't eat it with milk. I give them a glass of milk separately!

omnishambles · 10/06/2010 20:23

if its not a cereal day then mine have bread and honey - if its a weekend then eggy bread is the most popular...
