making birthday cake in advance

hi all,

I'm taking the brave step of making my first ever birthday cake for my baby girl's second birthday! It's a moon shaped cake, using Nigella's buttermilk sponge and ready rolled icing with a buttercream and jam filling. Her birthday is on the Sunday and I'm planning on making it on the Friday. Question is, should I make the sponge cakes and fill in advance and then ice on the day or should I do it all on the Friday and it will keep until the Sunday? Is it okay to just store in an airtight container?

thanks

I would make it on the Friday and decorate it on the Saturday afternoon. It will be fine in an airtight container.
