BBQ Salad Ideas?

I'm looking for some inspiration for salads for a BBQ I'm having next weekend. So far I think I will do a pasta salad, tabbouleh and a greek salad. I'd like to do some sort of potato dish but I'm not keen on traditional potato salad smothered in mayonnaise. Has anyone got any interesting ideas on what else I could serve?

How about tiny potatoes roasted in their skins?

Season with salt and pepper, chuck a few bits of garlic in the pan, maybe some fresh rosemary too, drizzle with olive oil and roast in a hot oven for about 30 mins or so. Goes well with a bbq and easy to keep warm until you serve up.

Try the royal potato salad from the new Ottolhengi cookbook. Essentially boiled new potatoes, peas and quails eggs in a runny pesto with mint. Delish!

Another Ottolhengi ides (I'm obsessed with this cookbook now): sweet potato wedges with lemongrass creme fraiche.

I do a salad with lightly cooked French beans, chopped red onion and chopped pecan nuts. Dressing with balsamic vinegar and a bit of 'easy' chilli.

Thanks for the ideas. Only problem with a couple of them is that DH hates boiled eggs!

I have a couple that I do although one does have mayo.

First is boiled new pots, chopped spring onions, chopped chives and a dressing made with lemon, olive oil, garlic and wholegrain mustard.

Second is boiled new pots, chopped shallot, capers, dill and dressing made with a tbsp mayo, 2 tsp dijon mustard and olive oil.

@ Ottolenghi cookbook

< makes a note for next birthday >

My fave is still warm new pots, tossed in ex v oo, sherry vinegar, dill, Maldon salt and v finely chopped spring onions. Light and tangy not cloying.

A potato salad made with tiny new potatoes tossed in vinaigrette while still warm (make the vinaigrette with balsamic vinegar) and lots of freshly chopped chives is lovely and much, much nicer than a mayonnaise potato salad.

You can make the Ottolhelgi potato salad without the eggs without any diminuation in flavour - I made it once with and once without (quail eggs are a PIA) and DSs preferred without the egg.

I make potato salad as Bonsoir does, but I use normal white wine vinegar, and add in chopped spring onions and crumbled crispy smoked bacon while the potatoes are still hot.
