Why did my pink cakes..

not come out pink?

Put pink food colouring in and the raw mixture was really pink but when they came out of the oven they were just plain cake colour.

What did I do wrong? I was expecting them to come out battenburg pink!

You use red colouring to get pink cakes don't you? That's what my sis does anyway.

Cakes should be cake coloured imo

GetDownYouWillFall · 03/06/2010 16:33

that's weird, maybe the cooking process somehow killed the colour? But it shouldn't do...

Try adding more next time

BrokenBananaTantrum · 03/06/2010 17:23

I'm going to add more next time but i must admit i was really when they came out

I prefer my cakes cake coloured too ShinyAN but DD REALLY wanted pink and she keeps asking me "why are they not pink mummmy why why why?"

I tried this, they were slightly pink but you'd have to be looking for it!
Not sure...sorry, would love to know

BrokenBananaTantrum · 03/06/2010 17:33

This says you only need 1 drop of pink food colouring but I put more than a drop in why won't it work?

Did you use liquid or paste food colour? Liquid is not very strong, paste gives a stronger colour. For some reason baking does weaken the colour. To get pink you actually need red colour. Don't try to get pink by putting masses of pink colour in. You could end up with a cake the tastes of food colour - which is vile.

ahh I used liquid colouring. will have to get some paste instead thanks pretty.

I'm going to have another go tomorrow. wish me luck

thanks everyone
