Maybe no-one's died from cherry stones, but I de-stoned them

Given how easily toddlers choke, I always de-stoned cherries too.

i destone cherries for ds [21mths] i usually cut them in half

DD is 2 years and one month and she still chokes on stuff from time to time that's pretty standard toddler fair.

Think I'd err on the side of caution and destone them.

I slice the flesh off the cherries which I guess is the same as de-stoning them

easiest way is to bite off the half including the stone and you eat that bit - give the other half to ds. Then at least you have some fun too. Oh, and beware the nappies if you overdo it!!!

Oh the cherry nappies - God forbid! Watch out for redcurrants and blueberries as well, especially if you are mad enough (like me) to use cotton ones. Unpleasant to say the least.
My baby has been wolfing cherries from the age of around 5 months and I just rip the stone out messily and give her the flesh. I never heard of anyone actually eating the stones, though?

I've been eating lots of cherries, friends dd (3 years) copies her big sis and bites around the stone, my ds (15 months) I bite one half and give the other to him.

My mindee (2 years) eats them whole - stone included! I panicked when he did it (choking, etc) and stopped him, when I told his mum she says he does it all the time.. think it's put me off buying cherries (that, and they're like £6 a bag.)

Yes, I would panic about choking. I always feel guilty for stuffing my greedy face with peanuts and walnuts in front of my litle one whilst she looks on longingly!
If you have a local market, buy cherries there instead of from the evil supermarkets. They only cost, like, £2 for a huge bag full, and are just as good in terms of quality.

I destone if i am planning on giving my kids cherries for a snack or a pudding. DD, however, takes them from the fruitbowl and eats them stones and all.

i shouldn't think cherry stones are digestible so wouldn't even dream of feeding them to anyone, let alone a child who might choke or hurt a tooth on them.
you can buy a cherry stone tool (don't know where from, maybe Lakeland do them??) and take the stones out before feeding them to the kids.
also, would not leave them within reach of a child either.

I destone for the 14 month old, but I remember feeding them whole to ds1 when he was about 20 months... I wouldn't leave them to eat them alone at that age. My 3yo & 5yo still eat them whole. I/they don't have a problem with it.

Hmm, I'm not usually overprotective, but I still don't give cherries to my 5yo and 3yo!! I was sure they would choke, and they are too messy to destone. Maybe I should let them have a go.
