Natural cold remedy - anyone in the know? Help please!

I have had this lurgy type thing for a few weeks - and while on holiday couple weeks ago was told to make a natural remedy all the Madeirans use.

This is : chop some onion and carrot, sprinkle over a teaspoon of sugar and cover in honey. Leave overnight and then drink a couple spoons of the juice. I have added a chopped clove of garlic to this. MY DH said I shouldn't have in case the ingredients react to each other.

Does anyone know about these types of things? I feel so grotty at the moment I will try anything even if it is hard to swallow.

Any advice/ tips much appreciated!

Rollmops' clan swears by hot water, juice of a large lemon, few tablespoons of honey and if needed (which always is)a good glug of brandy .....

The Grow Your Own Drugs guy (James Wong?) had a remedy on his tv programme that I think contained onions and chili. I think it was a BBC programme so they might have the recipes on the website.

I sometimes take elderberry tincture to boost my immune system and think it works very well. You can get it from health food shops.

I hope you feel better soon.

I forgot to say, have you considered that you might have hay fever?

1 stick cinnamon
1 tsp coriander seeds
1 inch piece of peeled ginger
1 tsp cloves
1 pint water

Boil all together for 10 min
Strain, add honey and lemon and drink.

lots of fresh garlic and if you can stand it, garlic tea (chopped garlic and boiling water) - fresh parsley freshens the breath.

Hope you get better soon.

This is the recipe from the grow your own drugs programme

1 onion finely chopped

½ chilli finely chopped

Juice 2 lemons

1tsp salt

Leave to stand in fridge until juices come out.

what kind of lurgy do you have?

I had a nasty bacterial bout of tonsillitis followed by another episode 3 weeks later and I managed to fight it off over a couple of days with vit c, clove throat spray, gargle with diluted tea tree oil, drinking a tincture that was hell itself that among other herbal nasties had something called golden seal in it. It never really kicked off which is unheard of with me.
