I havent seen any hvs since dd was 5 months - she's now nearly two. They are sadly on the whole ignorant about weaning and bf.

starshaker · 07/08/2005 20:38

by the way im allergic to kiwi fruit (only came on while pg) so i know she cant have that yet

No, kiwi's a known allergen, so best not to give until over a year.

Other allergens include citrus fruit and strawberries. Personally I'm allergic to apples, peaches, nectarines, plums and cherries, so I didn't give DS any of those till he was older.

Pear maybe?

I remember eavesdropping on an hv (I rarely had the same one twice). the baby was 8 weeks old and still had problmes feeding from one side, she offered no advice. The mother said that she sucked her hands a lot so she said it was better to have a dummy. But surely if you have managed 8 weeks without one, why introduce it? (am not anti dummies but surely they aren't always necessary) My son sucked his hands till 4 months but hasn't gone on to suck his thumb (he just chews everything else!)

starshaker · 07/08/2005 20:45

alana sucks her hand and has a dummy aswell think the dummy will eventually go and the hands will stay (well obviously but u know what i mean)

weaning

stacijc · 07/08/2005 20:49

i've just started weaning my 4 MONTH OLD...capitals coz at the end of the day its up to me and he would have chewed his arm off if i had waited any longer.

Current guidelines suggest waiting til 6 months but m,y 2 yo was also weaned at 4 months and he is fine. i am taking it slowly and he has onlyhad baby rice and carrot so far.

You can puree apples,pears,papaya,peach,plum...in fact most fruit and veg can be pureed and frozen NOT bana tho...stargazer if u want any further advice CAT me if you like. can see this thread getting out of hand. i personally am weaning withveg first but makes no odds really.

oh and to answer your question about fromage frais its 4 months....legally they can't say you can feed it form 4 months if its not safe.

jane313 · 07/08/2005 20:51

I froze banana ok

hercules · 07/08/2005 20:52

fgs.

hercules · 07/08/2005 20:52

No, it's not up to you it's up to the posters on mumsnet [rolls eyes]

hunkermunker · 07/08/2005 20:53

stacijc, up to you obviously. But they're looking at changing the guidelines so that the 6 months start for weaning is reflected. Legally, they can say it, it doesn't have to be safe. Lots of babies react to gluten, tomatoes, dairy, etc, yet there are many many jars out there that contain these things that say suitable from four months.

stacijc · 07/08/2005 20:54

huh? up to the posters when I wean MY child????

hunkermunker · 07/08/2005 20:54

Rather think Hercules was joking...
