I am cooking for my DB, SIL and 6 children (also myself and DH) on Sunday. DB is a fantastic cook and SIL is a trained chef. Although I am a good cook, I'm not int heir league.

I stupidly kindly offered my DB to choose what roast we have and he chose pork .... Pork is not a strong point of mine, I've only ever cooked loin or chops.

So - what joint should I buy and how do I cook it ?

Both Jamie and Nigella have lovely slow cooked pork recipes that would be great for a crowd.
The only one that I have personally used is Jamies Chilli Pepper Pork. It just falls apart - and tastes gorgeous.

Dont be put off by the title - You can make it as spicy (or not) as you want. I dont add the chilli so the dc will eat it.

we get shoulder. HOT oven for 30 minutes, then wrap in tinfoil and cook for 5-6 hours on low heat, take tin fil off for final hour. It will be crispy on to and falling apart and moist inside.

If the weather is good why not forego the roast and get the barbie out and do souvlaki? Cubed pork with oregano, garlic, oil, barbied on skewers then stuffed in a pitta with chilli, a slick of yoghurt and some fresh tomatoes and thinly sliced red onion.

If you do have pork roast, can thoroughly recommend buying a joint way too big so you can use the leftover for making stressedHEmum's shredded pork rolls. They are to die for.

This recipe by Delia Smith is very fast and easy and completely delicious. Also very pretty to serve.
