What the hell do I make with stewing steak when it is 20 degrees outside?

Defrosted some at beginning of week when it was cold with intention of making casserole.

Can I put it on skewers in the oven to make some sort of kebab or does it need to be cooked in liquid?

I may have to stick it in slow cooker and freeze it for a rainy day. But then I have no bloody idea what to make for tea.

Not having the best of days so any help would be gratefully appreciated

You can make chilli with stewing steak, I think. Never done it myself but it might be nice (with tortilla chips and sour cream it wouldn't be too much for a warm day).

do not kebab it - it needs long cooking to become tender. Use the slow cooker

have casserole! hot food is hot food surely... or do you only eat cold food when it's hot?

Mithered · 20/05/2010 17:34

No not always but it just feels wrong to be having casserole when it is boiling outside iyswim. Bugger it - cant be arsed thinking of anything else will have to stick it in.
Cheers

i do know what you mean, but am sure you'll enjoy it anyway!
maybe if you eat it outside it'll be better lol

I was going to suggest burritos - a but more summery than casserole. Serve with salad, sour cream, guacamole?

Mithered · 20/05/2010 18:21

Will eat outside - by time its ready will probably be pissing down anyway! lol

Burritos - no idea how to make them?

Well, they eat stews in Australia and South Africa so what is the problem? You just need a salad to go with it, and maybe a cold beer!

Had the casserole & jacket tatties with red vino which went down well. I didn't know if you could make anything else with stewing/braising steak other than the obvious.

just for the record, if you make stew, you can then stick in in pastry to make cornish pasties. great cold or warm with a salad and some branston pickle.

Insert 3" length of wood skewer into 1" square chunk of beef.

Freeze.

Hey presto! Refreshing beef lollies for summer afternoons. Serve with mustard and tommy k for dipping.
