I know we had a thread a while back, and I'm always hijacking other peoples these days so SOME ADVICE NEEDED

Need to invest in some more cake tins, I have currently been working with a friends tins, but she is talking about starting up again so I will have to give them back

So at the minute I am looking at buying square tins, should I go for seperate sizes of Invicta OR the multi size cake tin

Has anyone got one? what do you think, Is it anygood?

Now I'm trying to find the cheapest

Are you all up to your elbows in icing?

OP posts:
Pennies · 20/05/2010 15:55

I've got one of those. It's v. good but only if you haven't got an Aga. I've got an aga and it doesn't fit in it. I just about managed to use it in one of my ovens but that was for fruit cake so it dodn't matter that it was a cooler oven. Cakes were fine.

PlumBumMum · 20/05/2010 16:03

Oh thats ok I have a rangemaster and a 12" tin fits in it,
so you would recommend it instead of buying a couple of invicta tins

If you have a Multisize, and an AGA, there is a solution. Phone up Silverwood's and they will be happy to help you adapt the ends of the uprights so that they will fit your AGA.

PlumBumMum · 20/05/2010 16:57

Did you both buy the extra inserts or do you really not need them?

OP posts:
PandaG · 20/05/2010 17:11

I've got the multiway and find it very useful. Have only got the one set of dividers that came with it though.

PlumBumMum · 20/05/2010 19:07

I suppose I could buy it and then buy the extra ones if needed, its 24.99 in Lakeland, seems to be the cheapest

Although its the round tins that will break the bank

Ooo that looks AMAZING I want one!!
Why doesn't it fit in an AGA? I have a Rayburn and an electric oven and I can get bigger trays in the Rayburn than the electric.

PlumBumMum I took a rubbish Christmas present back to John Lewis where it came from and got cake tins instead

PlumBumMum · 20/05/2010 20:47

debka at christmas and my birthday dh fell out with me because I wanted cake tins and decorating stuff
(I'm sure hes sorry now when I decide on a trip to the cake shop)

I love decorating cakes! The more colourful the better. I also like cakes that don't need special tins. Here are a couple of my own:

Six-layered rainbow cake - keep it a surprise! Great for Alice in Wonderland parties. bit.ly/AliceCake

Car cake made using loaf tins. bit.ly/CarCake

Have another birthday coming up next month and need somethign equally outlandish. Any ideas for something quirky and bright?

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 20/05/2010 21:01

evening, have just finished putting hairs on dogs to go on the top of a wedding cake.

I have the silverwood tin, I would say - don't think you can cook 2 different size cakes in the tin at the same time (I did)
it is great for flexibility though,

PlumBumMum · 20/05/2010 21:06

OMG fancyalittle (love your name) I LURVE that rainbow cake, amazing,
will have a nosey at your blog at weekend if I start now will never get off computer

My cakes are boring in comparison

I'm doing a racing car cake next week

Hello - I was on that other thread with you!!

DH bought me the Silverwood Cake Pan with inserts for christmas. I have used it as a 12" in tin but not for several cakes.

PlumBumMum · 20/05/2010 21:13

Hi BTPOG,
Oh now theres a point, but you could bake say 2 6" cakes?? or better just to bake one at a time,
I was thinking it would be handy at christmas to bake 4 christmas cakes at once, got all excited last year on a thread everyone was decorating their xmas cakes and I hadn't done any

And to save money, as I need to get at least 3 round tins (kinda forgot I didn't own them as my friend had give up cakes for awhile but she is ready to start back into them towards the end of the summer),

OP posts:
bellavita · 20/05/2010 21:17

I have the 6" invicta tin but my other round ones are from Lakeland - on offer 3 for 2. I got my square ones there too (before DH got me the Silverwood pan)

PlumBumMum · 20/05/2010 21:24

Bellavita was looking at the 3 for 2 online,
are they any good? Is there much difference, all the tins I have used so far have been invicta,

Lakeland has just came here and I haven't been yet, Do I even want to go? will it be dangerous to my purse?

OP posts:
bellavita · 20/05/2010 21:28

Very dangerous to the purse!! We have one here.

The Lakeland ones are lovely, heavy duty and always turn out a good cake and I like them having loose bottoms which my invicta tin doesn't although I have never had a problem getting the cake out of the invicta. I only bought the invicta (from a cakey shop) because I needed a 6" one and I could not see any in Lakeland.

PlumBumMum · 20/05/2010 21:30

Bellevita I remember you from the other thread, thought we could do with another wee chat thread

I adapted your baileys cheese cake recipe to my white chocolate cheesecake recipe to make mine a low fat version (dosen't taste very low fat) Haven't got round to doing the Baileys one yet as need an excuse to buy another bottle of baileys

OP posts:
PlumBumMum · 20/05/2010 21:33

I might give them a try, then oh I feel a trip to Lakeland coming on, I hope ours is good haven't heard much in the way of advertising or anything

Olihan · 20/05/2010 21:37

Plum, I've baked 9 x 3" cakes in the silverwood tin. It's fab but you do need a set of extra dividers to make it exceptionally useful.

I also got the Top Table wedding cake - think it's you who's doing one as well, isn't it?

CHUNKYMUNKEY · 20/05/2010 21:44

i hope you dont mind me asking i have only ever made a victoria sponge cake before, but would love to make my dd a birthday cake for her party, can i make victoria sponge in advance, freeze and then cover in ready roll icing the night before. will it taste/look okay? also is ready roll icing easy to use or what else could i do,
