Sterilized cream

I am trying to follow a recipe that has "sterilized cream" as an ingredient.

I've never heard of this before. Where would I find it in the supermarket? (I bought single cream, but I'm not sure if it's OK to use that instead?)

I absolutely loved this when I was a child, served with tinned fruit, Christmas pud or crumble! It's quite thick, and best served chilled. Never cooked with it though. It can usually be found next to other tinned/longlife milk products. Used it regularly until I became lactose intolerant I fancy some now

married are you thinking of condensed milk..that one is thick and gooey. i use it for my lemon cheesecake.

alpaly am definitely not thinking of condensed milk- far too sweet! I just threw away the last tin in my fridge

The sterilised cream I had as a kid was called Dancow...a danish one....it was the best.
The only one that came close after that was Co-op brand Sterilised cream but now you can only seem to buy the extra thick cream which is ok but not like the Danish one and not so readily available.

I remember one from Nestle. Used to love it as a kid. It was a small tin and was a thick cream . Nothing like evaporated milk (which I also love!
