I'm thinking of making a princess cake - do you want to help with some advice?

I have rashly undertaken to organise the cake for the joint 5th birthday party for my DD and 2 other friends.

I was thinking of something along the following lines:

Round sponge to create a princess face
cut off a bit on the side, and have triangle sponge attached, to create a princess hat.

Something to create hair at the side.

Ice and decorate to make a face, tiara or some such (details a bit hazy), and decorate the pointy princess hat.

Was thinking of using royal icing (get it?) for the icing.

Sounds good.....
Or, one of those dome shaped cakes with a barbie/pin dolly poking out.
Or, one of those princess castle cakes.

There will be about 25 children at the party, so it needs to be quite big, ruling out the dolly in a cake. (although fab idea, I've always fancied trying that).

I did a castle cake last year, which was pretty amazing. I may do that again this year, with 3 turrets and the name of each birthday girl on a turret.

I haven't been able to find any good pictures of flat princess cakes on the web yet.

This M&S one looks a bit easier.

Can't claim to have made it, but this looks easy...
