Please help, cake is in the oven, I have had to increase quantites to make the cake larger for DD birthday, but that then suggests that it needs to be cooked for 2.75-3 hrs. I will test with scewer but i don't want to keep opening the door. Please can anyone advise!!!!!

What size and time does the original recipe mention?

BosworthBear · 04/08/2005 11:45

6" sq 1.15-1.5hrs, 7" 1.5-1.75, 8" 1.75- 2.0hrs So it is increasing 15 mins per square inch so I am guessing at 2.75-3 hrs.

but I am only guessing and despite a quick trawl through the books I can't find a more reliable answer!!!!

Blimey. I think it would be safe to check it at the estimated 10" time because it should be pretty much set by then.

Do you mean my guess at the 10hr time - I was worried that I might be a little overcooked!!

Wait until this afternoon when I try and turn it it into a sleeping beauty cake . . .Perhaps i should have stuck to a little bit of chocolate on the top and a few sprinkles!!!!

hehehe...

it makes sense that a 9 inch would be 2hrs - 2.25, 10 inch 2.25 - 2.5, 11 inch 2.5 - 2.75 and 12 inch 2.75 - 3 but that does seema hell of a long time!

I'd keep an eye on it to make sure it's not burning on top and aim to test at 2.5 hrs depending on the speed of your oven and whether it's fan or not.

BosworthBear · 04/08/2005 12:09

Yes, it is a fan oven so that seems sensible - just seemed such a long time for a sponge cale!!

Many Thanks . .

I can't work out why madeira cake would take so much longer than an ordinary cake either.

soupy!
if it weren't for thes pesky time differences your baking Queen crown would have been severely challenged!

SoupDragon · 04/08/2005 12:47

Oh, I'm no baking queen, believe me Never successfully made your brownies (although the virtually raw in the middle versions were still delicious)
