I like to boil the butter/sugar/syrup for a short time (coupl of minutes, stirring) because it caramalises slightly. Yum!

The recipe I use is (although I halve the ingredients!)

250g/9oz butter
225g/8oz golden syrup
75g/3oz light muscovado sugar
375g/13oz rolled oats

preheat oven to 180 c/350 f/gas 4
line 28 x 20cm/11 x 8 shallow baking tin (or smaller if half ingredients)
put butter, syrup and sugar in pan and heat gently til butter has melted
Add oats and mix thoroughly
tip ino tray and spread evenly
bake for 15-20 mins until just colouring around the edges (will still be softbut hardens when cooked)
Eat any remaining raw mixture.

I add sultanas to soupdragons recipie - delicious

SoupDragon · 06/08/2005 09:20

DS2 picks out all the sultanas and makes a terrible mess!!

Glad you enjoyed it anyway

SoupDragon · 06/08/2005 09:21

(chocolate chips are good to add too...)

Has anyone got a flapjack recipe which uses condensed milk in it? Just been looking at the back of a M&S box and their flapjacks are lovely and chewy and contain condensed milk.

Have tried googling but nothing coming up with condensed milk in it although a couple of other organic independent producers seem to use condensed milk too.

Many thanks!

i foudn this site the other day looking for a flapjack recupe and this is the one i found posted by Talkingtree back in 2003

Best flapjack recipe ever:

Oven at 150C/Gas mark 2

150g unsalted butter
120g light brown muscovado sugar
1 tablspn maple syrup
250g porridge oats

1 18cm sq cake tin

Heat butter, sugar and syrup gently until dissolved.
Remove from heat and stir in oats. Mix well.

put mixture into tin, cook for 25/30 mins, until golden.

I prefer it with 'jumbo' oats, but the rest of my family with ordinary porridge oats, but it all gets eaten in about 5 mins, whichever I use! In fact, I tend to make double quantities.

Happy Baking

ive made two batches so far and its gone done a treatr with my family

This is Cadbury's recipe and simply cannot be beaten and takes about 25 minutes to bake start to finish! Enjoy

4oz margerine
1tbsp golden syrup
4oz caster sugar
2oz oats
2oz SR flour
3oz crushed cornflakes

1 Grease a 7" x 7" square tin and preheat oven to 190c (170c if fan oven)

2 Melt marg and syrup together gently.

3 Mix in a bowl the sugar, oats, flour and cornflakes.

4 Pour the melted marg and syrup onto dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.

5 Pack mixture down evenly into tin and bake for 15minutes - NOT A SECOND LONGER!

6 Cut into fingers while still warm and leave to cool in tin.

7 Remove from tin and eat, then bake another batch before anyone realizes!!!
