It is dead, in cutlets.

I need some reassurance and recipes please.

Have you ever cooked/eaten shark?

Yes it it: Dogfish

He was probably trying to make it sound exotic

SuziKettles · 13/05/2010 21:06

Fried, with spiced lentils.

wukter · 13/05/2010 21:11

I ate shark in a kind of burnt black crust once

meltedmarsbars · 13/05/2010 22:16

Ooh, maybe it was dogfish - is that acceptable to MNetters?

Well, it was quite nice actually - blasted it in a frying pan then tipped a bit of leftover vinaigrette on top. Meaty and tasty.

It wasn't expensive - I do usually go for Mackarel or haddock or sometnig more "normal".

Swordfish aren't sharks.

LetThereBeRock · 14/05/2010 02:10

It sounds rather nice, even at this hour.

Tolalola · 14/05/2010 02:29

LetThereBeRock is right, swordfish aren't sharks. They're bony fish, sharks are cartilaginous, but the meat is pretty similr, so anything you can do to swordfish works well for shark. It's also good in curry.

Having said the above, I haven't eaten shark for many years for conservation reasons. It's pretty ethically dodgy.
