Slowcooker gammon - do I need to soak it? How much cider?

I know there have been about a million threads on SC gammon but I wanted to run this past people, if that?s OK.

I have a 500ml bottle of Waitrose own cider and a gammon joint weighing just over a kilo (again, Waitrose own/Essentials).

The plan is to put it in the slow cooker tomorrow morning, with the cider, an onion studded with cloves, a celery stick, a couple of peppercorns and a bay leaf or two, and cook it on low for about 8 hours.

Sooo, will 500 ml of cider be enough? Or should I augment it with some stock or water?

Should I glaze it with something after and stick it in the oven (bearing in mind I?ll be short on time tomorrow evening so I?d rather not)? Or will it be OK as it is?

And, should I soak it overnight?

If it was anything else (beef, pork even) I?d be fine but I?ve never cooked gammon before.
