Freezing mashed potato?

I want to make a bacon, leek and cheesey pie thing with mashed potato on top. I make it all the time and freeze the base regularly, but could really do to make one for next week and have the potato on it ready to go.

Does mashed potato freeze OK?

TIA

yes - I've frozen it - absolutely fine.

Yes it's fine. Otherwise you would never be able to have shepherds pie ready meals!

I often make shepherds pie type dishes, with mash on top, and freeze them. They defrost and cook just fine.

Great, thanks. For some reason I thought it went watery or starchy or something.

Thanks for the thread tassis. We have millions of extra potatoes from the allottment and I was wondering about making things and freezing them rather than wasting all those spuds.
