Probably a silly question but can I freeze undecorated cupcakes in their paper cases?

Yes, definitely. I have even frozen decorated normal-sized chocolate and Victoria sponges with good results.

I froze DSs birthday cake before I iced it.

Still tasted fine and actually much easier to decorate as less crumbs to come loose.
