What's Your Best Cornish Pasty Recipe?

My mum is looking for a cornish pasty recipe, mainly the filling bit. Her oven is a tad fierce so we were wondering if she cooked the filling then put it into the pastry that would work? Any advice or recipes would be greatly appreciated.

TIA Lola

turnip (swede), potato, onion, loads of pepper and a slither of butter.

Or you could try this I have it and there are lots of different methods in there. Everyone's pasties are different, you have to find the way you like!

Skirt steak, potatoes, turnips, salt and pepper then I just use a couple of teaspoons of bisto in half a mug of water, you do not need much liquid. I always cut the potatoes and especially the turnip quite small. As pasties are a bit labour intensive my mum always made the filling as above in a casserole dish, cook for an hour at about 180/gas mark 5 or if you have longer put it at a lower temp and cook for longer, then just put a lid of shortcrust pastry on the top, a bit of egg wash and do an extra 25 mins in the oven until it's brown. We call it pasty pie and it's my absolute childhood favourite, being a Cornish girl!

No no nooo to mince. Never mince. The Hairy Biker's recipe is the closest I've come to the ones my Cornish grandmother used to make.

Hi Mrspir8, I'm from Newquay originally but live in London now, hope to get back down soon to see friends and family.
Pregnant with my first baby and think it would be a better place to bring up children but my DP is not keen. I'll have to make do with holidays.

We feel the same-we live in worcester now. Would move back to Cornwall ina shot for the sake of the kids-but it aint gonna happen. DH cant make the kind money he's used to down there. MIss it though-hate being treated like an emmit when we go home. Maybe one day........
