Any braised cabbage experts around?

I've got a red cabbage which I MUST use up but I only usually use it in salads. Doing a roast tonight though so thought I'd braise it.

All the recipes talk about red wine vinegar and Bramley apples - I have some Gala apples and white wine vinegar - will this do?!

Unless you're entertaining AA Gill, it'll be fine. I'm bubbling mine with eating apples right this minute.

Gala apples are fine but don't use white wine vinegar....I made this mistake once and the colour leeched out of the cabbage during cooking and it was awful. Use normal red wine if you have any....

Too late! Have no wine. Normally unheard of in this household but I'm pregnant and abstaining. Smells very vinegary ... Hope it'll taste ok even if it's a freaky colour! Thanks.
