how to get your hand on local honey?

OK, living in east london it won*t be easy...but I do see honey bees around.

my dad is a beekeeper in germany and sells honey at his door but to ship honey here is a bit silly but the odd jar we get when visiting is not enough.

of course there is honey in the super market, but proper beekeepers honey from a single source is hard to come by.

any suggestions?

Local health food shop? Or city farm ?

how local do you want? i live in the sticks so doddle to me, but all the waitrose local stuff (can't remember radius) always has couple brands of honey if thats any help

single source is always harder, any reason you need it?

I just like single source honey better having been involved with beekeeping since I was a child.
my dad only has 4 hives (which is about 400 jars of honey a year), but sells of exess honey to anyone who wants it.
I was hoping that there are local beekeepers who would do the same.
haven*t seen hives at the local allotments so far.

is there a local beekeeping society you could contact and ask local beekeepers if they have any to sell?

callmeDave · 06/05/2010 10:41

this any good? london beekeepers

TidyBush · 06/05/2010 10:44

Have a look here to see if there is a local association near to you.

DH is a bee keeper and we sell loads of honey locally, quite a few people contact us via the local association.

Good luck

I must have been reading the Zoo threads too much - I thought this was something to do with pulling fit birds...

Sonilaa · 06/05/2010 10:53

Thanks a lot, I will try the shop.

oh thanks for those links, i was looking for local honey for dp as I read about it helping with hayfever. poss too late for this year but worth knowing about anyway

BlingLoving · 06/05/2010 13:54

Local (to you) honey is supposed to be very helpful for hay fever sufferers. So I will try these links to find honey that's local for DH who suffers terribly badly.
