Chocolate required to set rice krispie stuff?

So, I want to make a snack bar for my DS but I am still avoiding giving him chocolate. I fancied adding stuff like rice krispies, raisins, etc. but not sure how it would set without the chocolate though?

Usually would add butter and honey....but that alone won't set.....will it?

Do you mean without baking?

Hohumchops · 05/05/2010 20:48

yes, wasn't planning on baking them......

I don't think it would hold together very well but there's only one way to find out!

Oh yes it will be fine, use golden syrup and butter melted in a pan, this works to bind together chocolate refrigerator cake which often doesn't have chocolate in, just cocoa powder. Give it a few hours in the fridge once you've mixed it all in well.

1 packet of marshmallows
4oz of butter - melt together & add Rice Krispies/raisins/apricots etc

Pour into a baking tray & leave to set - cut into squares

(you can add either cocoa to the mixture or melt chocolate over the top - but you don't have to)

I do one with equal amounts of butter, toffees and marshmallows. Not exactly healthy (but you can add dried fruit, nuts etc) but it does taste fantastic, very moreish.
