Would you eat these potatoes?

Marks & Spencer new potatoes, have been stored as per instructions in drawer in fridge.

They look ok - not green, no sprouts - and feel ever so slightly squashy.

Thing is, the wrapper says 'Display until - 1 Apr'. A whole calendar month ago.

My instinct says they're fine, but I am pregnant and keep forgetting I need to be a bit more careful - normally the type to eat anything as long as it looks ok.

WWYD?

If they are not green I would eat them

We regularly eat squashy potatoes. They are fine. I don't store mine in the fridge though, that seems odd advice.

They probably won't be "new" any more though

Are you not meant to eat tattys that have gone a bit green then?

jodevizes · 01/05/2010 20:07

No my dear. Green potatoes can make you very ill. Potatoes are a member of the Deadly Nightshade family I think, which is why, when they are green, they become poisonous.

Are they???? really???? that could explain something to me then
