For large quantities of easy canapes, I just get a couple of baguettes, slice them and put the sliced bread in the oven to toast, maybe with a drizzle of olive oil. Then pick three or four different toppings to go on them. Ideas would be:

  • chopped tomatoes, with maybe a bit of basil
  • guacamole
  • hummous
  • smoked salmon pate (just whiz up some smoked salmon, lemon juice, creme fraich and philadelphia cheese in the food processor) and garnish with a bit of dill

Second the bread with different toppings.

Spiced potato wedges - cut potato into wedges, pop in a bag of olive oil, a pinch of paprika, chilli powder, garlic, shake about and then whack on a baking tray til crunchy and yummy! Put in a big bowl and let people help themselves.

A plate of mini chicken kebabs on skewers, again with some dipping sauces.

I wouldn't do much else to be honest. Salad, pasta, breads with nice toppings to choose from, wedges (or fries), and some little kebabs will be plenty alongside the usual BBQ stuff!

Could make some coleslaw, shredded white cabbage, finely choppped onion and carrot with mayo.
Delicious and much nicer than shop bought, and good for large number of people.

Potato wedges definitely, always go down well.

Maybe a bowl of couscous with chargrilled peppers, asparagus, courgettes and drizzled with olive oil. yummy!
