Brownies from the Hummingbird Bakery book although I do a lot of savoury cooking with DD to expand her food likes.

homemade pizza and dough balls
cheese and pesto quesadillas - DS makes pesto
both DS(6) and DD(3) especially love licking bowls and decorating stuff eg putting jelly tots artfully on top of choc cornflake clusters. they also like decorating mash on top of fish pie/shepherds pie etc with different patterns using a palette knife. it needs to be quite a thick layer

We do a lot off the I can cook cbeebies programme. dd loves doing the mini fishcakes. All the recipes are on the website. Muffins always work well as you just bung everything in together and it doesn't matter if the mix is lumpy.

veggie savouries:

  • second taffetacat on homemade pizza. ds (2) loves rolling out the dough, deciding on and adding his favourite topping (grapes and pineapple this week )
  • sweetcorn fritters: very thick pancake batter, add fried onions (or anything else you fancy), drained tin of sweetcorn and fry add once in a big pan. you have to quarter it to turn over, but this way cooking is quite quick (about 5 mins) and doesn't need to be stood over so I don't need to persuade ds to amuse himself while it cooks
  • pancakes, even simpler to make the mix, but the cooking takes longer and ds can't be involved in that, so I have to let him start on the first one while I make the rest
  • cheesy cornbread. search for any southern american recipe, you can add veggies to the mix, and/or serve with a spicy tomato + bean sauce

We make pizza, the base recipe I use is really easy and quick as well as tasty.

It's
9oz plain flour,
one pot buttermilk,
1tsp bicarb.

Just mix the whole lot together and spread it out onto a tray. It sometimes needs a bit of extra flour, but will stand quite a lot of kiddy handling.

Puffy Delights.

Packet of puff pasty (or homemade if you are feeling very adventurous)
Cheese, grated
Ham or bacon, cut into cubes

Cut the pastry sheet into squares, sprinkle with cheese and ham, fold over to make envelopes. Bake in oven for about 10 - 12 minutes.

You can fill them with other stuff. I have used chicken and herbs, salmon and cream cheese, roasted veg...

pizza: 250g flour, 1 teaspoon yeast (or half a pack quick yeast), 100ml warm water, 50ml olive oil. roll out to cover baking tray. brush with olive oil, paste on tomato puree and put on all toppings you like. bake for 20-30 min at 200 degrees

Sonilaa · 29/04/2010 16:40

brioche:
500g flour, 1 tablespoon active yeast, 250 ml warm milk, 75g melted butter, teaspoon salt, 100g sugar.
mix together let rise for about 1 hour, knead again, put in muffin forms and let rise for another half hour or so. bake at 175 degree for 20-30 min

I'm afraid this thread made me think of the pie in Titus Andronicus. Not one to try at home.

pud1 · 29/04/2010 16:42

this one is really boring but the emergency biscuit recipe on here is really easy and quick to make, i make them with dd as she loves decorating with icing and sprinkles and the recipe is really cheap, quick, easy and she gets to her fav bit sooner
