Has anyone attempted a Darth Vader birthday cake?

DS is going to be 3 soon and I'm thinking of doing a birthday cake with Darth Vader on it - just a picture of the character on top of the cake. Has anyone attempted this for their own child and how did it turn out?

I picked some icing pens today (black one included!) and would love to hear from other mums who have had a succesful time making a Darth cake.

TIA

I did a Star Wars birthday party theme once, but ended up making a normal chocolate cake. I'm not too good at baking and icing and didn't want to risk ruining my humble cake. You seem more adventurous!

However, I hired some themed decorations sets from www.partyprojects.co.uk and they provided some cool accessories to surround the cake, including a Darth Vader candle holder and a balloon arch with a Darth Vader background scene setter. Even though the cake was simple and basic, the accessories were enough to hide that fact

rafaellas sounds like you done the right thing and knew your limits! I bet it was a success though. No, I wouldn't say I'm that adventurous, I'm just going to make a victoria sponge and put fondant icing on top and then use the pens I got out of Asda the other day to create the figure, just hope it turns out ok! Wish I was more arty and crafty but I'm not. If it seems too tricky then I may just do a dinosaur on the cake - seems easy enough to draw one!

thanks taffetacat have had a look at the site - one of the cakes has given me an idea of what I need to do if I do go ahead with the Darth theme.

let us know how you managed!

is it possible to post pics here?

well I'm afraid to say I chickened out at the last minute!
I ended up getting one of DS's books (Dinosaurs love Underpants) and using one of the dinosaurs from that to draw onto the cake.

I think I was being a bit tooo ambitious with the Darth theme - may pluck up the courage for next year!

The cake looked lovely though, and that's all that matters. DS loved it.

No reason to be ashamed! I bet you did great with the dinosaur cake and with DS loving it, that's what matters.

And as you said, there are plenty of future birthdays to be more adventurous. I'll follow your example this year and try and bake a more creative cake too!
