Cheese Pie

I remember it from school dinners (decades ago) does anyone know how to make it?

It had pastry underneath and sides but not on top just a cheesy crust. I'd love to eat it again, anyone help?

I make a similar sort of thing called a homity pie which is delish.

Shortcrust pastry to line a flan tin, then fill with lots of softened, slightly caramelized onions mixed with cooked, diced potato, grated cheddar, a bit of thyme or sage if available and a tablespoon of milk to loosen the mix a little. Grate more cheese over the top and bake until the pastry is cooked and the top is all lovely and golden.

I might try that, thanks.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

Aw, no other suggestions yet.

I'm trying to remember what those school dinner cheesy pies were actually like. Was it like a thin, more-solid-than-usual quiche? I'm sure it didn't have potato in it.
