The Sainsbury's delivery man apologised yesterday that they had substituted my Mango Trout for Mango Trout and Sweetcorn

I must have looked a bit confused as I couldn't remember ordering any fish this week

Until he produced a packet of mange tout and baby sweetcorn

My mil was once most confused by a menu for a formal dinner, and thought there must be a choice for the main course, as it listed "Mongy Trout".

I was expecting a post about Thai green mango salad with crispy fried trout... (well, the Thai use catfish, but 'tis really rather yummy)

DP's nana used to talk about mangy touts ... and she didn't mean annoying young men at Asian bus stations touting for tourist business

[goes off to peruse Thai cookbook for suitable recipe]

1 green, unripe, very sour mango - finely shredded
2 finely sliced red shallots
crisp fish - made by a quite a laborious process involving marinating, steaming and then deep frying for 20 minutes at low heat

dressing of:
birds eye chillies; lime juice, fish sauce and sugar

The dressing is easy, but sourcing the mango and crisping the fish is a right pain

[feeling rather nostalgic for the days I could just pick this up at the market for my dinner]

that sounds quite labourious
i think I'll try fish fingers with some mango chutney

And that doesn't sound at all attractive!

By the way, you have probably eaten the last mango trouts in the country ...

fruitshootsandheaves · 16/04/2010 22:31

haven't eaten them yet...will they be valuable in a week if I preserve them?
