Why do my chocolate chips sink?

Made a lovely sponge today. Nice, light and airy. Really fluffy and yummy. BUT all the chocolate chips were layered at the bottom. What did I do wrong?

dust with flour before adding to the batter, same with any fruit you add/cherries etc and that should solve it
